Writing is like...

...a box of chocolates. Each one is a little bit different. You never know what you're getting until you bite into it.

Um, not quite? Try again? No matter how carefully you follow the instructions, measure, and bake, it never turns out the same. And sometimes the serendipitous mistakes lead to the most delicious results.

Hm. Do over.

...eating an elephant. One bite at a time. It takes a lot to chew through something that large.

...bathing naked in a pool full of man-eating, ravenous sharks. With paper cuts.

No, wait. That's what being published feels like some days. How would you complete the sentence?

  1. Writing is like an unplanned journey. When we start we only have a vague idea where we want to end up, but we take the journey and reach a totally unexpected destination.

  2. I like that, Chris. Maybe I should turn this into a contest. Who can post the strangest or funniest or most profound ending?

  3. Writing is like Chex mix.:-) Lots of different bits that make something good.

  4. Writing is like dancing. Instead of exploring how your body can move through space, you explore how you can arrange words on a page. You choreograph a story with an exciting and mysterious beginning, an interesting middle, and a surprise ending.

Keep it clean, keep it nice.
