Nexus Point is now out of print. The ebook is still available but the paperback is no longer published. I'm working on a revision for it, but it's slow going. I'm embarrassed by how bad the writing is. I think I'm good at characters and plot, but the writing itself sucks. Big time. Fortunately, writing is something you improve with practice. Lots and lots of practice.
So, here's to improved writing and better story flow. For those of you who read Nexus Point and still loved the story, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for wading through that horrible prose and sticking with it enough to see the story and fall in love with the characters.
As soon as I'm done revising book one, I'll pick up book eight and get it published. My original goal of one book a month has been derailed by school and health issues, but I only have four more in the series. Thanks for your patience.
If you enjoyed the series so far, please tell your friends. Word of mouth is really the only way anyone finds books anymore. If you would post reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, Scribd, B&N, Smashwords, and anywhere else, I will love you forever, no matter how many stars you give my books.
Okay, whiny writer rant over. How about a look at the new cover for Nexus Point? I'm in love with this one.
Actually, we really liked it. Dace was such a great character. Vince read it first - and while he did pick up on some of the writing flaws, he encouraged me to read it, because of her, and because the next books got much better on the writing. I'm looking forward to the revised version!
ReplyDeleteI love the new cover! Very cool! I have the eBook but haven't gotten a chance to read it yet. I think as writers we are most harsh on ourselves. Writing gets better the more you write--you do have that one right. The nice thing about being indie is you can update your book as often as you like. :) Best wishes and stay strong!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement. It will take a while to work through the edits, but I'm liking it better already. I've realized I'm great at characters and plot, but not good at the writing.
ReplyDeleteLove the new cover. =) I really liked the first book too. Though I can tell there is prose shift between the first and the later ones. But if you've read the Harry Dresden books sequentially, you can see that there too. Probably you can with any author, if you can sort out which was written first. Probably a problem if you can't because that signals that the writer has stopped improving. Is just easier when it's a long series where changing world and story tones don't obscure the storytelling skills.
ReplyDeleteActually, it was the first chapter or two in the second book that took a couple tries to get through to where the story hooked me. The confusion about the legalities on various levels that propels her to run bothered me. But I hate legal entrapment situations so not sure if it was the writing or me being angry at the world.
Excited for the rest of the books. I did get to tell a fellow former LTUE gopher that your books were available. =) She hadn't heard yet.
Thanks, Hannah, for your kind words and the promo.
